Description

Ravenscar from Ravenhall

Ravenscar or “the town that never was” is a small coastal village between Scarborough & Whitby.
It was meant to be “the next Scarborough” & plans were made for huge developments. Ravenscar even had it’s own railways station despite having only a small community.
It is also famed for its alum works, which were very important for the production of many products years ago.
For various reasons, mainly the difficulty of scrambling down its rocky cliff to get to the beach, development plans were scrapped.
Now Ravenscar is a haven to cyclists & walkers who take advantage of its beautiful cliffside views & diverse countryside.
